About Us
So, what the hell is blueAlto?
I suppose it's a bit of a catch all. As I say in our front page description, "never without opinion" is oddly succinct. Take that as you like.
Anyway, the main author is myself, Allan, Al or alto, I respond to all three. The "sometimes" author who makes an appearance now and again and helps me when I'm in need is my good friend Karen, currently living across the pond for a year, back from living across the pond for a year.
Technically, we are a personal blog that updates daily. As far as what we are about? I suppose these pages are about many things, serious concerns over the state of humanity, all the way through random, seemingly irrelevant comments on pop culture. Bit of a wide breadth, I know.
So, narrowing the focus slightly, in no specific order, the following are themes you will often see referenced on these pages:
- Cultural and class realities, ones often awkward to discuss
- the intersetionality of oppressions and societal inequity in 2009
- sexism, feminist issues and the treatment of women
- homophobia, sexism, and racism stemming from patriarchal oppression
- HIV prevention, management and containment, the international HIV picture
- gay community specific issues
- sports and physical conditioning as a means of confidence in children
- current events referenced through specific and very personal frames
OK that would be the serious end of the spectrum. Of course it’s fair to say given the above issues, you have a good idea of my political stripes. Moving on to the the light and fun topics.

- making the everyday into humor filled rants on numerous topics
- perceptions of style and design

- perceptions of life as a grad student (second time around)

Add a bit of the creative writer wrapped up in the mix, and I'd say blueAlto is my place on the net to do something I really enjoy; and that is to write.
